I just wanted to personally thank you for the wonderful job you have recently done on our grand piano. You are a master at your craft, and I can not explain in words what a relief it was for me to hear the lovely tone of our piano after you had spent much time voicing the instrument with our earlier concerns in mind! Tim K.

I want to extend a belated note of thanks for providing your invaluable expertise in making my Steinway “be all that it could be”. I really appreciate the time you took to try to meet my needs and expectations. You have raised my level of appreciation for and enjoyment of the instrument immensely. It is now a joy to play which is a far cry from what it was before you worked on it. John M.

Customer

How fortunate we are to have found you when others had not understood our concerns. I just want to let you know you are very much appreciated by both of us and we look forward to a long friendship with your expertise and craftsmanship as our studio technician. Mary W.

Biography

I Have Been Tuning and Maintaining Pianos in Dallas For Over 40 Years

I began servicing pianos in 1970 while a music student at the University of Oklahoma. Upon graduation, I worked in the Oklahoma City area for Sharp & Nichols Music in piano sales and service. I moved to Dallas, Texas in 1973 to work for Whittle Music Company as an apprentice piano re-builder. I worked my way through the ranks to become the Chief Concert Technician and Re-Building Shop Foreman in 1975. I left Whittle Music in 1978 to start my own service business specializing in concert service in addition to building a very large private clientele. I became an employee of Steinway Hall – Dallas in 1993 serving as Director of Technical Services. My duties included all aspects of customer service, complete rebuilding, new piano preparation, inventory control, concert and artist activities, and sales support.

I have performed concert services for many venues and presenters, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Van Cliburn Foundation, Fort Worth Symphony, Dallas Civic Music, and Dallas Chamber Music Association. Institutional clients include Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian University, Baylor University, University of North Texas and the Texas Conservatory of Young Artists. I have had the privilege of working with many Steinway artists such as Vladimir Horowitz, Gina Bauchauer, Leon Fleisher, Gary Graffman, Alicia del Larrocha, Rudolf Serkin, Claudio Arrau, Byron Janis, Murray Perahia, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alfred Brendel, as well as Elton John, Billy Joel, Harry Connick Jr., Ramsey Lewis, Billy Taylor, Peter Nero and Roger Williams. I have rebuilt pianos for Van Cliburn, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Southern Methodist University, and Texas Christian University.

I have had the privilege of training with the world’s foremost technicians such as Franz Mohr, Steinway & Sons’ Chief Concert Technician Emeritus; Ron Coners, Steinway & Sons’ Chief Concert Technician, and John Patton, Steinway & Sons’ Director of Technical Services.

Currently I am self-employed and doing work for the Dallas Symphony, the Van Cliburn Foundation, Fort Worth Symphony, University of North Texas, and Baylor University.

In addition, I have a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Oklahoma.
